Drywood Termite Treatment in Venice, FL
Pellet piles under a sill on the Island of Venice, swarmers at a downtown window: Venice Exterminator tells you which termite it is, injects the colonies it can get to, and hands whole-house jobs to a licensed fumigation company.
Selling the house? We write the Florida WDO report on Form 13645, with photos and the findings in writing.
Drywood Termite Treatment in Venice — Island Wood, Coastal Air, Straight Answers
Venice Exterminator handles drywood termites across Venice, from the older homes on the Island of Venice to the block neighborhoods inland. A drywood colony feeds from inside the wood and gives little warning until pellets begin collecting under it. We inject the colonies we can reach and refer a house with termites throughout to a licensed fumigation company.
Own an older home on the island or near the Gulf? Drywood termites come with the territory. Venice was planned in the 1920s, and the housing around Venice Avenue and the historic downtown still mixes masonry with wood frames, trim and roof framing. Salt air off the Gulf and the Intracoastal Waterway keeps that wood humid, and a drywood colony asks nothing of the soil.
The Island of Venice. Where most of our drywood calls come from: older homes, wood trim and roof framing, and coastal humidity that never lets up.
South Venice and Venice Gardens. Mostly concrete block. Less drywood pressure than the island, but the roof framing and trim are still wood, so it is not zero.
The newer block-and-stucco subdivisions. Wellen Park and the other new construction on the mainland, where subterranean termites are the main concern and drywood turns up less often.
Many Venice homes sit closed for months while their owners are away for the season, and a colony has that whole stretch to work unnoticed. A look under the sills and along the attic framing when you get back is worth doing.
Venice Exterminator does the inspection, names the species, makes the call and performs any spot treatment. If the house needs a tent, we say so, explain why, and point you to a licensed fumigation company. Call (941) 299-8937; the inspection is free.
Two Different Termites, Two Different Fixes
Species first, always, because the treatments have nothing in common.
Drywood. Lives inside the wood with no connection to the soil. Leaves hard, six-sided pellets in piles beneath the wood it is eating. Handled by a spot treatment, or by tenting the whole structure when the activity is widespread.
Subterranean. Lives in the soil and comes up the foundation walls, slab edges and piers in mud tubes. Handled with a liquid soil treatment or a bait-station system. A tent does nothing for this one, because the colony is in the ground outside the tarps.
Keep finding something like coarse brown sand in the same spot? Drywood frass is one explanation; sawdust from wood-boring beetles and the debris carpenter ants push out of their galleries can look alike at a glance. Send us a clear photo, or save a spoonful in a zip-top bag, and the inspection sorts it out.
Spot Treatment or a Tent: How the Call Gets Made
Spot treatment, by us. For activity confined to wood we can reach: a window or door frame, a stretch of trim, one joist, a piece of furniture. We open the galleries and inject a labeled termiticide foam or an orange-oil product; bare, unfinished wood can take a borate. You stay home, and it costs far less than a tent. The limit is plain: it treats only the colonies we find.
Whole-structure fumigation, referred out. For activity in several rooms or framing members, in the attic, or behind finishes nobody can open. We do not fumigate; a licensed fumigation company takes that job.
By the time pellets appear, a colony has usually been at work for a while, and it may have company. That is why the attic and the surrounding wood get checked before a spot treatment is recommended.
When the House Needs a Tent
The fumigation company runs the job and issues its own prep list. The general outline:
- Before. People, pets and live plants leave. Food and medicine go out of the house or into sealed fumigation bags.
- During. Tarps go over the house and a gas fumigant fills it, reaching every piece of wood.
- After. Tarps off, house aired out, air tested by the crew. No one goes back in until the readings clear.
The fumigation company sets the schedule. Fumigation leaves no protection in the wood afterward, so a borate on bare attic framing is worth asking about.
Papers for a Home Sale
A positive drywood finding on a Venice WDO report usually brings a request from the lender or the title company for proof of treatment. When the treatment is ours, the record names the species, the areas treated, the product and the date, and we can send it straight to the title company and both agents. A fumigated house gets its record from the fumigation company. Need the inspection itself? We do Florida WDO inspections on the state’s Form 13645.
Pricing
Nothing for the inspection. A spot treatment is priced after we have seen the house, by the number of areas that need treatment and how hard each one is to reach. A fumigation is priced by the fumigation company, usually by the cubic volume of the house, and it costs considerably more. Either way you get a plain answer on which route fits.
